One lucky drop of a special mod can make you super rich. Probably one of the most free-to-play friendly games that are out there, with how much of the game is achievable through in game grinding and trading. There have been some recent updates that really pushed the game to a spectacular place. It's a great time to join, as we're just about to get a new job (Blue Mage), and some new story content in a week or two.

There are plenty of 'skip' items that let you skip past different tiers of the story, and the full game with all expansions is pretty cheap right now. Gorgeous graphics, an easy and intuitive HUD whether you're using controller or Mouse + KB, and a story that, while it starts slow, gets going to a really awesome place. I'd throw my hat in the ring for FFXIV any day of the week. All of those MMO's are eastern made (GW2 technically started in the west but given NCSoft's ownership of ArenaNet I think it's fair to say they are eastern influenced at this point and I would argue they don't have as much eastern influence as some of the other Korean MMOs). I am not arguing whether or not it has as much anime influence as something like SW or Vindictus/B&S, but I think it's disingenuous to say it doesn't have anime influences or anime-like character design. The costume design screams elaborate anime style to me as well. The cutscene's themselves are structured and shot like short anime sequences too. Soul Workers is basically straight anime MMO (it's literally called an anime action MMO) FFXIV (and arguably BDO) would sit between GW2 and something like Soul Workers.
I think it's fair to say that some of the character design in GW2 also has an anime/JRPG style to it as well. I appreciate you agreeing that it does have some anime-look to it. Some people want to play an MMO for raids, dungeons, and massive grinding levels. I love FFXIV, and I still play it, but people are way too blind to see that starting the game new is a complete chore. New players will be at least 5 to 10 levels head of the MSQ, so there no sense of accomplishment or desire to improve or level up since everything will be easy to kill. In addition, it also doesn't help that players now in days gain massive amount of xp that it doesn't feel as rewarding anymore. It's very time consuming and you'll be constantly reminded that you can't do *certain activity, dungeon etc* until you finish MSQ. I don't care how entertaining a story can be, it gets repetitive after a while. There are over 246 back tracking MSQ in the base game. The story is a hit or miss type of situation, and not everyone going like it.
Just because you liked the story and got these satisfying results doesn't mean everyone else will.
